Workplace telemedicine is a growing trend for both large and small businesses. These days every company needs to incorporate low cost, innovative perks for their employees. Perks are a way keep the talent that you have and attract the talent that you need. It is not rocket science that people stay where they feel welcome and appreciated.

The workplace is now never ending. The smart phone has taken over any free time that we once had. Can’t sleep? Go ahead and pick up your phone on your nightstand and respond to emails at 3:23 a.m. On a coffee break? Go ahead and post a Facebook status of where you are sitting….tweet about the deliciousness of the blueberry muffin that you are eating….and invite the guy you just met on your floor to connect on LinkedIn. There is no rest for the weary.

Americans are working longer hours and often for less pay and less benefits. The Center for American Progress compiled data that suggests the typical American middle-class family worked an average of 11 more hours a week in 2006 than it did in 1979.

The Great Recession of 2008 to 2012 left many companies with no choice but to cut employee perks. As we move into a period of economic recovery, perks must return to the workforce to ensure that employees feel engaged and respected. Companies on Fortune’s list of 100 Best Companies to Work For tend to have less employee turnover than average. Lower turnover means that good employees stay and are more productive.

SHOW APPRECIATION TO EMPLOYEES AND THEIR FAMILIES

Bolstering the benefit package is one of the best ways to show appreciation to employees. Consider adding a Discount Healthcare Package that includes unlimited access to Board Certified physicians to the benefit portfolio for pennies a day. With the escalating cost of healthcare and the ever-increasing physician shortage in the United States, telemedicine is a logical solution to reduce costs and provide access to doctors for your employees.

WHAT IS TELEMEDICINE?

With telemedicine, the doctor is really just a phone call away. Telemedicine is not a replacement for a primary care physician. Instead, our physicians treat non-emergency medical issues such as allergies, bronchitis, pink eye, sinus problems and ear infections for adults and children. Short-term prescriptions for non-controlled substances may be written if medically appropriate. Upon requesting a consultation, members receive a call back within an average of 22 minutes. To ensure continuity of care, members can be provided with a detailed electronic health record (EHR) that can be sent to the members’ primary care physician. The telemedicine consultation is free, compared with a co-pay to visit a primary care physician.

REDUCE ABSENTEEISM

Adding telemedicine to your portfolio of benefits will reduce absenteeism. Instead of having to miss an entire day of work waiting at the doctors’ office, the doctor is just a phone call away. Employees can have their issues addressed quickly by utilizing telemedicine. An employee’s absenses can have a major effect of other workers.

REDUCE INSURANCE PREMIUMS FOR EMPLOYERS

Each time your employee goes to the doctor your healthcare premiums may increase. By having employees utilize the telemedicine benefit for their common illnesses, a visit to the doctor’s office can be avoided, saving time and money. As a complement to primary care, we make sure your employees’ are equipped with all of the tools and resources needed to reduce the cost and frequency of in-person consultations. A great example of telemedicine in the workplace can be found at Rent-A-Center, a Texas-based national retail chain. Rent-A-Center began offering employees access to telemedicine in 2011 as part of its health insurance coverage, helping to slash the excessive use of emergency room visits for the delivery of routine medical care. Something as simple as instructing employees to pick up the phone has saved Rent-A-Center more than $750,000 in health care costs.

My Medical Smart Care Discount Healthcare Package includes:

Telemedicine: Unlimited Access to Board Certified, U.S. based, doctors for the entire family.

Discounted Pharmacy Prescription Card (10% to 85% off most prescriptions)

Lab Discounts

Dental Discounts

Vision Discounts

My youngest child never ceases to amaze me. We have always called her the “animal whisperer”. She is the reason we have two cats and two dogs. Every year for Christmas she would ask for only one thing…a dog. The list would always look like this:

CHRISTMAS LIST

1. A dog

2. A dog

3. A dog…..

Caroline finally got her dog Gracie for Christmas 2011. The next summer, Gracie’s brother Max arrived. The animals have completed our family.

A couple of years ago, one of our cats went missing in the neighborhood. We reached out to our community animal activist and asked for his help in finding our beloved black and white cat Casey. Emails were circulated with a photo of Casey. The streets were canvassed and garages were searched. We went to every animal shelter in the city to see if she was picked up. Then, in the middle of the night about 8 days later, we heard the familiar “meow” at the back door. Hallelulia, the cat came home. Finally, my baby girl could rest.

Fast forward three years and now my daughter is 12 years old and her passion for helping animals has only strenghened. I am a big believer in finding your passion in life and I encourage my children to do what they love. Caroline and several of her 6th grade friends conducted research on a local animal shelter called BARC and signed up to volunteer. Now when you are under 18 years old, a parent must also volunteer. So, let me rephrase, Caroline and her mom are signed up to volunteer at BARC. We attended our 2.5 hour volunteer orientation last week and learned about the shelter and the handling of the animals. We spent a couple of hours on Superbowl Sunday in the puppy nursery. Our job was to clean the kennels, wash the puppies, hold the puppies, feed the puppies, and show the sweet puppies to prospective adoptive parents. We were both exhausted but felt so good about making a difference. BARC is an incredible organization of committed individuals whose love for animals is overflowing.

So I want to thank my daughter for showing me how to be a good citizen and just how important it is to volunteer in your community. The puppy kisses were an added bonus. Susan

To learn more about volunteering at BARC…

BARC Volunteer Super Stars!

BARC is honored (and fortunate) to have a truly super team of individual and group volunteers that work with us on a day-to-day basis. They are all about happy tails. …Which is why we call them our Super Stars!

They are tireless. They are generous with their time. On all levels — from meeting with adopters, finding and providing good homes, cleaning the shelter, feeding the animals, walking the dogs and petting the cats, no task is too big or too small. In short, they do whatever needs to be done – because they care. BARC really couldn’t do our job without them and we know it. But we want everyone in the community to know it.

So, BARC would like to pay special attention and give many happy tail wags to our supporters at Friends of BARC and to our foster and shelter volunteers. We want to let everyone in on just how much we — those of us with two legs and those with four — value and benefit from all those who donate their time and services to BARC.

We also want to hear from the community. If you have a suggestion or would like to nominate an individual or group to be highlighted, email Ian Todd, the Volunteer Coordinator atian.todd@houstontx.gov. Your thoughts and recommendations won’t go unnoticed.

That’s a promise.

Be A BARC Volunteer!

According to the New York Times, health insurance companies across the country are seeking and winning double-digit increases in premiums for some customers, even though one of the biggest objectives of the Obamacare was to stem the rapid rise in insurance costs for consumers. My own health insurance with United Healthcare was raised by 21 percent.

The most vulnerable to the higher rates are small businesses and people who do not have employer provided insurance and must buy it on their own. Entrepreneurs like myself fall into this latter category. The rate increase can amount to several hundred dollars a month. The proposed increases compare with about 4 percent for families with employer-based policies.

When Providing Health Insurance for Employees in NOT an Option

Small business owners are often left with no choice but to stop providing health insurance for their employees. The costs are just too great. Today, companies are looking for cost effective ways to optimize their healthcare benefits package, to cut costs in a manner that does not pass more out-of-pocket costs to their employees. We have found that My Medical Smart Care is an excellent option when health insurance is not an option, and as an addition to any healthcare benefits package. It provides comprehensive benefits for the employee or entrepreneur and their families.

Did you get your health insurance increase notice in the mail yet? Almost all businesses and families are now receiving them. My United Healthcare policy was just increased by a whopping 21 percent. I only had two routine visits to the doctor in 2012. Why the increase?

Impact of Obamacare still Uncertain

The full impact of Obamacare on the average American is still not known. What we do know is that the future will bring a shortage of physicians. Doctors are adapting to making lower fees which naturally suggests that doctors will choose to work fewer hours. It is the “labor/leisure” tradeoff that is common to all paid labor. What that means for us is longer wait times to see a doctor and less time spent with the doctor. With 32 million people coming into the healthcare system with the implementation of Obamacare, there will be a strain on system as we know it. The healthcare trends suggest that the future will involve telemedicine and I am very proud to have launched my new business with one of the largest telemedicine companies in the United States– Ameridoc. You can enroll at www.MyMedicalSmartCare.com and instantly have 24/7 access to a doctor. How would your life change if you, your family, and your employees had access to top quality doctors from anywhere at any time?

Those of you who know me understand that for the last 3 years I have become a student and teacher of the industry of network marketing. I consider myself a network marketing professional. My car has become a mobile university as I listen to CD’s of the great network marketers of the past and present. I read the books, so many books. I can’t get enough.

This past weekend I had the honor and privilege of attending the Mastermind Event 8 in Houston Texas. All of the great ones were in one place for me to hear. Just look at this lineup: Jordan Adler, Chris Brady, Art Jonak, Big Al Schreiter, Randy Gage, Orjan Staele, Richard Brooks, Sarah Robbins, Mike Potillo, and Orrin Woodward. All of these extraordinary leaders are from different companies but came together for the sole reason of promoting the industry as a whole. The theme of the weekend was Dream, Struggle, Victory, and Revolution.

I cannot tell you how many times that I have read and listened to Beach Money by Jordan Adler. I had never really known about the concept of residual income until I read that book. Do you realize that Jordan Adler quit 11 network marketing companies over the period of 10 years before he finally settled on one? He mused that quitting is not a great strategy for success. But the fact of the matter is that people are people and people quit. 90 percent of people who join gyms never go. They pay their monthly dues and they don’t go. There’s nothing wrong with the gym. It’s just that people are people and people quit. But there are some people who are going to get it and stick it out. These are the people who have a dream and long-term vision. These are the people I want on my team.

There is no perfect time to get into network marketing. The perfect time is the day you join your company. Results happen because of massive action on your part. Give your business everything that you’ve got. Some people have no idea that network marketing companies even exist. Open your mouth and tell them. Anyone can make it to the top of a network marketing company – anyone with a work ethic. Those of us who are in the industry of network marketing have been given a gift and it is time for us to start giving it away.

Just know that when you join my team I will never quit on you. You have the right to quit on me because we live in a free country. I have the dream. I appreciate and learn from the struggle. I enjoy the victory. And I welcome all of you to join in the revolution with me. Susan

My father was born on September 24, 1920. Today would have been his 92nd birthday. Sadly, my father passed away when he was 75 years old. I had just had my second baby Tommy and my dad could not have been a happier grandfather. I wish my dad could have taught all of his grandchildren the valuable lessons that he learned in his life. I guess he passed the torch to me. My dad was full of wisdom and had a work ethic like no other that I have known.

In order to understand the lessons my dad taught me you have to understand the environment in which he was raised. Dad was born on a farm in Illinois. From a very young age, he knew about hard work. Shortly after dad’s 9th birthday, the stock market crashed on October 29, 1929 (known as Black Tuesday). The Great Depression took over the world, which created a devastating economic depression in the decade preceding World War II. The Great Depression lasted until the mid-1940’s and demonstrated just how far the world’s economies can decline. Farmers suffered tremendously as crop prices fell by approximately 60%. Unemployment in the United States rose to 25%, and in some countries rose as high as 33%. Sound familiar?

When my dad was 18 years old, Germany attacked Poland on September 1, 1939, and that was the beginning of World War II. Like so many young men of his era, my father joined the Navy. Dad had just turned 21 when Japan pushed the United States into the war when Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7, 1941. Toward the end of the war, Dad entered into the Pacific campaign on the aircraft carrier Bon Homme Richard. The ship was deployed in March of 1945 and joined other carriers in the final raids on Japan in the Pacific. Although the hostility ended in mid-August, the ship remained off the coast of Japan until September of that year, and then returned home. World War II was over and my dad was now 25 years old.

When I compare my first 25 years to my dad’s, I was on easy street. By the time I turned 25, I was gainfully employed as an attorney. As a child, I remember watching the news every evening with my parents and hearing about daily loss of life during the Vietnam War. The news made me sad but that was as close as I got to any conflict. My family was fiercely patriotic and we remain so very proud to be citizens of the United States.

Here are some of the lessons that my dad taught me.

Never buy anything unless you can afford to pay for it with cash.

If you do use a credit card, pay it off each month.

Always show up early for an appointment. Never make anyone wait on you.

Always leave the table hungry.

Everything is fine in moderation.

Always leave a place better than when you found it.

Always help others. If they need the shirt off of your back, give it to them. You can always get another.

Be prepared to do any work to support your family. No work is beneath you. Be willing to sell pencils by the side of the road if necessary.

Nothing is more important than getting an education. Go to school. Stay in school.

Don’t be wasteful. Take what you need and no more.

Go to every game and stay to the end.

The list can go on and on. I was so very fortunate to be raised by such an amazing man. I really thought all men would be just like him. They are few and far between, but they are out there. When you find a people with a sense of value and work ethic like my father had, don’t let them go. Bring them into your inner circle. There are so many lessons to be learned from these extraordinary individuals.

Happy birthday dad. I miss you.

Summer is almost over and it’s time to write again. I had the most wonderful, relaxing summer. I spent many days in the water, beach and pool, all over the country. I was promoted to the top position in my company this summer too. Oh how I love Network Marketing. I have an amazing collection of inspired people on my team from all parts of the United States. We all have a common goal: Retire with out any money worries.

My oldest child is soon to be 20 years old. She is in the beloved GenY generation. These kids have it tough. Unless something is fixed, Social Security will dry up by 2033. GenY is also saddled with unparalleled student debt. In fact, about 37 million Americans are weighed down by student debt according to a recent report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.

Would you marry someone with student debt?

Would you start a family if you had student debt?

Would you have a second child?

Would you want to live with your parents after college?

These kids of GenY will most likely live with their parents for many years because they cannot afford to live on their own.

We baby boomers have our own issues with debt and stress. According to the Employee Benefit Research Institute, 46% of all American workers have less than $10,000 saved for retirement, and 29% have less than $1000 saved. WHAT??? That is insane. Do you realize what a mess is in store for the United States in the next 10 to 20 years? You talk about stress.

The following question was asked to a group of senior citizens recently, “Would you rather be BROKE or DEAD?” All of them answered DEAD. They would rather die than to have no money and rely on their children.

Well GenY and Baby Boomers, we had better find a solution and I mean NOW. I found my answer in passive income. I have been working in the arena of Network Marketing since August of 2010 and I haven’t looked back. I refuse to be strapped with debt and living like a pauper when I retire in 15 years. I choose LIFE and I choose to live DEBT-FREE.

Find the right Network Marketing opportunity for you and work it consistently for a minimum of 60 months. You must be 18 years old and have a work ethic. This industry will change your life and enable you to live a debt-free life.

Tithe ,noun, verb, tithed, tith·ing.

noun

1. Sometimes, tithes. the tenth part of agricultural produce or personal income set apart as an offering to God or for works of mercy, or the same amount regarded as an obligation or tax for the support of the church, priesthood, or the like.

2. any tax, levy, or the like, especially of one-tenth.

3. a tenth part or any indefinitely small part of anything.

I recently changed the way I contribute to society. I now take 10 percent out of every check from money that I earn and I put it into a white envelope marked “Inspired Tithing”. I am no longer donating to organizations out of obligation. Instead, I am donating to people or organizations that inspire me. The envelope lives in my purse and I make it a daily mission to go out and find inspiration. I consider money a currency; a real current that flows like electricity. The more money is exchanged, the more money you will have. The more money I give away makes me want to earn more money so I can give more money away.

I am always so impressed by the notable philanthropists of the past century: Bill and Melinda Gates, Warren Buffett, George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Bono, and Andrew Carnegie to name a few. The more money they have, the more money they give away. These philanthropists’ live by the principle that can be found in the Bible when Jesus Christ says, “For of those to whom much is given, much is required.” (I have to admit, I always gave credit for that quote to John F. Kennedy in the past. I actually pulled out my Bible and verified. The quote can be found at Luke 12:48)

The great thing about “Inspired Tithing” is that it doesn’t matter how much you make. You don’t have to be a billionaire like Bill Gates. Just give away 10 percent of what you earn. I encourage you to find inspiration and tithe to it. Money likes to be exchanged.

My father practiced “Inspired Tithing”, he just didn’t coin the phrase. In 1996 when he passed, I had the honor of delivering his eulogy to a packed church with my 3 year old daughter on my hip. There were hundreds and hundreds of people at the service, many of whom I didn’t personally know. People lined up to tell me countless stories about my dad and how he helped them through the years. He was the guy who stopped if your car was broken down on the side of the road and made sure you were safe and your problem was solved. If you needed some money because there was too much month at the end of the paycheck, my dad would always lend a helping hand. He would literally give a perfect stranger the shirt off his back. My dad was the salt of the earth. But they did not break the mold with him. We can all be like my dad. We can all be like these famous philanthropists’. Let’s get back to that mindset America. Consider “Inspired Tithing” as a new way of giving back to your community. A life well spent.

Please keep a journal of your tithes. Why were you inspired? Who inspired you? What did they do? What organization does great work that you love? I am always drawn to people with a strong work ethic and great attitude. Inspiration is all around you.

In 2008, the Great Recession hit my brick and mortar business especially hard. All lines of credit were called in from the banks…so we had to shut our doors, lay off employees and basically lose our shirts. I decided at that time to find a way to make passive income for my family and myself. I no longer wanted the headaches of traditional business. No more payroll taxes in my future. The Great Recession opened my eyes to see what was happening to my country and to small businesses and it made me realize that I had to find another way.

All signs pointed to the industry of Network Marketing as my answer. I picked up a book written by Robert T. Kiyosaki entitled The Business of the 21st Century, and read it from cover to cover. He says, “If you want a solid future, you need to create it. You can take charge of your future only when you take care of your income source. You need your own business.” Kiyosaki found that the business model that stood out from the rest was Network Marketing. Kiyosaki says, “If I had to do it all over again today and start from scratch, rather than building an old-style business, I would start out by building a network marketing business.” This concept made perfect sense to me; I just had to find the right vehicle.

There are many ways to make passive or residual income, but I think Kiyosaki is right, the best and most lucrative way is found in the industry of Network Marketing. So I started doing my research and it took me a while to find a business that I could work that met all of my requirements. My primary mission was that I did not want to sell anything!

I don’t know about you, but I was just so tired of being “sold.” I did not want to sell make-up, jewelry, vitamins, shakes, clothing or skin-care. These are all wonderful businesses and you can make a tremendous amount of money, just not my cup of tea.

The way I see it, the person who solves the biggest problems gets paid the most money. A huge problem that we face in America today is the cost of prescription medication. We have 50 million Americans without prescription coverage! The truth is that our population is aging and prescription medication is a way of life. After exhaustive research and with a little luck, I found a company that allows me to distribute a pre-activated discount prescription card that saves people between 10% and 75% on most prescriptions. The card is free and I give it away like candy. Each time the card is used at over 54,000 pharmacies’ nationwide and a discount is given, I make money. So I pass out discount prescription cards and I find others who want to do the same. EASY. SIMPLE. NO-SELLING. RESIDUAL INCOME. Thank you Great Recession for opening my eyes to the world of Network Marketing.

Fast forward the calendar to 2012 and it turns out that I was right about our economy. In fact, the New York Times reported that United States families’ net worth is the lowest in 20 years. According to the Federal Reserve, the recent recession has erased almost two decades of wealth for Americans. Median family income fell to $45,800 in 2010 from $49,600 in 2007.

The 8 million jobs lost to the recession cemented a decade of declining income. Roughly 60 percent of job losses fell disproportionately on mid-wage hourly positions, according to the National Employment Law Project. As a result, wage growth has been slower the past two years than at any time over the past 30 years, the Economic Policy Institute says.

Americans have to figure out what to do about money and their looming retirement. Last time I checked, you could not take out a loan for your golden years. So do your research and find a way to make residual income. There are so many options. Don’t let the economy steal your life’s savings again. Make a back-up plan and start today. Look to the industry of Network Marketing as your answer.

Are you making a back-up plan? Let me know what you are doing and how it is working for you.
